Megan Martin graduated from the the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with a first class honours degree, where she studied piano performance under the tutelage of Katharine Lam and pedagogy with Luan Shaw. Megan also holds a PGCert and the DipABRSM in Piano Teaching.

Beginning her piano studies at the age of fourteen with Geoffrey Smales, Megan soon took to performing in local competitions and festivals, with success in solo and duet classes, as little as a year into her study. In 2015 and 2016, she was the overall winner of the piano category of Chester Competitive Music Festival. In 2016, she was awarded an entrance scholarship to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, just four years after beginning her musical journey.

Since beginning her degree studies, Megan has enjoyed both solo and chamber music performances in a variety of venues and has performed recitals in both the UK and Italy. She has also been fortunate to perform as part of showcases organised by Schott Music London, and was given the opportunity to perform at the book launch of Play it Again Piano II by Melanie Spanswick. In December 2019, Megan was fortunate to perform in the Steinway Hall, as part of a PIANO WEEK showcase. L’Âge d’Or, Megan’s debut album will be released later this year and features a mixture of solo and chamber music works, from the Belle Époque era. 

Megan is passionate about teaching and currently teaches privately, and at a leading private school in Birmingham. She enjoys guiding students of all ages in preparing for both ABRSM and Trinity exams, as well as simply helping them discover a love for piano.  A keen music facilitator, Megan was a tutor with Melody Music for three years, where she she gained invaluable experience with children and young adults with special educational needs.

Megan is also an active choral singer and whilst studying, was a member of the renowned Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir, and Camerata Choir. Megan has had the privilege of singing for services in prestigious venues, such as Westminster Abbey and Winchester Cathedral. In 2018, she was invited to sing as part of a chamber ensemble for the only existing recording of Antonio Popora’s Dixit Dominus, conducted by Darrel Chan, and was also part of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Chorus, in a BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe, Suite No. 2.
